Trade union leaders to present 'government report-card'


Trade union leaders and MPs will present a report card on the government's performance at a public meeting in Wellington tomorrow.

The meeting brings together some of the leading trade unionists in the country, who will report their observations of the government's performance in key areas including the economy, industrial relations law and public services.

Solutions to issues identified will then be debated by the unionists, MPs and other community leaders.

Speakers will include Peter Conway (Secretary, Council of Trade Unions), John Ryall (Secretary, Service and Food Workers' Union), Sandra Grey (President, Tertiary Education Union), Jeff Osbourne (Asst Secretary, Public Services Association), John Maynard (Secretary, Postal Workers' Union), Ross Teppett (EPMU) and Dr Geoff Bertram (Victoria University of Wellington).

Election candidates to be taking part in the political debate will include Jim Anderton (Progressives), Darien Fenton (Labour) and Jan Logie (Greens).

The meeting will be held at St John's Conference Centre, 170 Willis Street, Te Aro, Wellington, from 6:00pm tomorrow.
