Medicines New Zealand Welcomes Extra Medicines Investment
“Increased funding for medicines in this year’s budget will be welcomed by patients, their families and health
professionals,” Medicines New Zealand General Manager Kevin Sheehy says.
“As the association representing innovative pharmaceutical companies in New Zealand we acknowledge the increased
investment of $20 million for subsidised medicines this year has been made in a time of difficult financial conditions.
The increase shows the current Government’s commitment to improving access to medicines in New Zealand.
“We believe that the Minister’s continuing commitment to this essential part of the health system is an important step
in improving the healthcare of New Zealanders. If a person is diagnosed with an illness and they can get effective
medicines sooner it will help ease the pressure on the hospital system and increase a patient’s ability to cope with an
illness, by remaining in employment and enjoying a good quality of life.
“PHARMAC have already proven they are responsible financial managers and we trust they will invest this additional
funding to achieve the best possible health outcomes for New Zealanders.”
