“Race to the Bottom” to open Key’s post-Budget speech
A solo-mum, beneficiary, pensioner and unemployed youth are some of the participants in the post-Budget “Race to the Bottom”.
The running race will start at 11.15 am on Friday 20th of May at Sky City on the corner of Federal and Victoria Street.
The race is the opening ceremony for John Key’s 12pm post-budget lunch at the Sky City Conference center, says Auckland Action Against Poverty spokesperson Sarah Thompson.
“The National Party is the major sponsor of this years Race to the Bottom with the Act party as a major contributor” she says. “Other sponsors include: South Canterbury Finance, AMI, Media Works, the America’s Cup, Rugby World Cup and other high rollers who received tax breaks.”
Mrs Thompson says it’s not clear who will win but race day conditions of poverty and inequality will likely lead to a photo finish.
Auckland Action Against Poverty is a new anti-poverty organisation bringing together unemployed, beneficiaries, students, unionists, church members and others working for a fairer society which puts the wellbeing of low income people above the welfare of bankers and investors.
