Tax Cuts For All!

Tamaki Independent candidate Stephen Berry today released his ambitious taxation policy for New Zealand. Mr. Berry’s policy will ensure that every taxpayer benefits from a reduction in taxation.

”If following the election, I am in a position to influence the Government; it is my goal to implement an income tax-free threshold for every taxpayer. The first $15,000 earned by each taxpayer will be tax free!”

“This taxation plan means that every individual will have $30 of their own money back in their pockets every week. It will effectively constitute an increase of income of $1,500 a year for not only the rich, but also the very poorest in this country.”

Stephen Berry has projected the cost of this policy to reduce taxation revenue by $4.6 billion in the first year. He remains committed to the principle that the government should run a balanced budget while implementing this tax cut.

“I recognise that with a projected budget deficit of 8% of GDP some may argue it as being irresponsible to cut taxes. Those people are lacking in guts and imagination.”

“This tax cut will lead to enormous economic growth, leading to increased revenues through GST. Increased incomes as a result of this growth will mean revenues gained through the portion of income that remains taxed will increase also.”

“Ultimately this tax cut is a central plank of my plan to drastically reduce the size of government, getting the state out of the lives of individuals. I can promise that this tax cut will also be accompanied by massive spending cuts, ensuring the government resumes running a balanced budget by 2013.”

Stephen Berry will specify the areas he proposes to be cut later in the campaign.
