Christchurch Earthquake Appeal reaches $17 million
The Christchurch Earthquake Appeal has so far raised $17.7 million to help rebuild the Christchurch community.
The Prime Minister launched the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal on 27 February to help channel funds into rebuilding
places and services for Christchurch communities.
The intention is for the Appeal to address the gap between emergency support provided by other charitable agencies, and
core government responsibilities.

Mark Weldon, the Prime Minister's personal representative on the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal, said: “These funds will
provide much-needed support directly to the heart of the communities. While the Government is taking care of essential
services such as roads, water, and electricity, the places and services that make Christchurch such a wonderful place to
live are still suffering.
“The Christchurch Earthquake Appeal provides a way for New Zealanders, and the rest of the world, to make a real
difference to the lives of the people of Christchurch.”
The Appeal has $17.7 million in the bank, with around $12 million pledged to the fund.
The fund will invest in seven categories to restore communities. They are: Hardship and Relief, Heritage and Culture,
Sport and Recreation, Education, Spiritual and Faith, Economic Revitalisation, Environment.
