The EUFA group are publicly calling on the Minster of Justice and the Authorities to step in and bring Mark Bryers back to NZ to face his responsibilities. It is unbelievable to many New Zealanders that Mr Bryers as a bankrupt, can actually live out of New Zealand especially given the crimes he admitted and the impact on his victims.
It has been reported that Mark Bryers has failed to pay his $37,500 fine imposed last May as a result of criminal charges he faced following the Bluechip collapse.
Three years ago at a meeting with the Minister of Commerce EUFA representative Gray Eatwell asked the Minister to ensure authorities pursue Mark Bryers and enforce the laws. Minister Simon Power has stated in letters his government will enforce the law. It is not happening.
Mr Eatwell said from Hokotika today “The Authorities have failed the people and hidden behind the ‘Bartle case’ which was not truly representative of the scam”.
Three years ago, in early March 2008 Mark Bryers promised the Liquidator $25m to put into the Bluechip companies. EUFA members thought it was a hoax.
In a meeting with the Minister in late March 2008, to defer EUFAs pressure on the Government, the Minister of Commence, Hon Lianne Dalziel suggested to Mr Eatwell, that egg would be on the organisations face if the money ($25m) came forth. At the time Mr Eatwell responded “Minister if Bryers comes up with any money you should be asking him where he got it from” Mr. Bryers conned the liquidator and the Government.
The authorities have a duty, under statute, to enforce the insolvency act.
