MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS
At the recent Grey Power meeting the benefits of belonging to the organization Were discussed by the guest speaker Bill Potter from Auckland and the local President Tony Grant-Fargie. They jointly evaluated the main reasons why people joined the organization and what the motivation was for them to join.
Bill Potter noted that the average life expectancy currently in New Zealand was 80.2 years of age.
The New Zealand “male average” was 78.2 and the “average female age was 82.2 years of age.
It has more to do with remaining young and having “out of age experiences” eg sky diving and Doing things that challenge their attitudes and activities. The so called “baby boomers” are Going to impact on society by New Zealand having more seniors than ever and more requirements On the infrastructure such as health,housing and superannuation, in the very near future.
Grey Power has a real role to play as they have the policies in place and they negotiate on behalf of this Grouping with the government of the day. Grey Power require “ positive thinking people” to Be involved and the members have to provide positive input for the greater good of the Grey Power Movement, who represent them said Bill Potter Both Bill and Tony agreed that the main reasons for people joining Grey Power were for the collective good of the members, they had produced a “ MAGNIFICENT 7 “ LIST.
Tony identified what the list of the “Magnificent Seven” items actually comprised of, as he told the Meeting we need to remind ourselves what we are all about. The list included the following
GREY POWER LOBBY, the national dealings with the government to improve the lifestyles of members.
GREY POWER DISCOUNT BOOK, detailing both National and local Wanganui discounts Available to members as a benefit of belonging to Grey Power
GREY POWER COLLECTIVE UNITY, IT is the largest nationwide organization representing seniors INCLUDING THE BABY BOOMER GENERATION
GREY POWER POLICIES the formalized policies that cover Health,Superannuation.local body, Law & Order, Taxation,energy,social services
GREY POWER LOCAL INVOLMENT with Councils in the provision of senior needs and discussions via the “Positive Aging Forum” and Annual Plan Submissions
GREY POWER INFORMATION via the National Magazine,Wanganui Association Newsletters Media Releases,Grey Power Website www.grey power .co.nz and on www.firstsearch.co.nz All for a membership of $10.00 per year currently.
GREY POWER VALUE FOR MONEY all the aforementioned benefits costs a member currently $1.42 per month or 2.7 cents per day Tony went on to list the specific details of what discounts were avialable to members as listed in the Grey Power discount book which is provided to members when they join Grey Power.
He highlighted a second set of” magnificent seven lists” of discounts and reminded the meeting That there is NO AGE LIMIT to join Grey Power all you have to be is “young at heart” said Tony
