Governor-General to celebrate International Volunteer Day
The Governor-General, Rt Hon Sir Anand Satyanand, and Lady Susan Satyanand, are tomorrow hosting a reception to acknowledge and celebrate volunteers’ contributions to New Zealand , as part of International Volunteer Day.
Guests are made up of grassroots volunteers who have worked tirelessly on the front line in providing services and expertise for their respective not-for-profit organisations.
“The spirit of volunteering is the “glue” that holds our society and economy together. Many of our health, education and social service sectors would grind to a halt without the countless hours of voluntary work many people provide,” said Sir Anand.
“International Volunteer Day is also a celebration of the generosity and dedication of the thousands of New Zealanders who volunteer their time, energy and skills to assist sporting, cultural and charitable organisations.”
