The Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party (ALCP) congratulate the National Organisation for the Reform of Marijuana Laws
(NORML) for electing a new board of Directors. The Board includes new President Steven McIntyre as well as Nandor
Tanczos, the World's first Rastafarian MP.
Nandor Tanczos will bring a wealth of experience to the non-partisan wing of the Cannabis movement. Tanczos began his
political career with the ALCP and went on to achieve great victories in parliament for the Cannabis Movement. These
include the legalisation of Industrial Hemp and the introduction of a clean slate for offenders after 7 years.
The Cannabis Movement has radically strengthened since Operation Lime targeted the Switched on Gardener chain in April
2010. Nandor's new role will help continue the momentum through to next years election.
The cannabis issue has hit the political agenda in recent weeks with Tony Ryall's decision to allow Medical Marijuana
into New Zealand pharmacies. This follows calls from the Law Commission to legalise the personal use of all drugs.
The Law Commission's final recommendations will be released in January. Given that over 95% of submitters support
cannabis legalisation and the fact that the Law Commission wields a great amount of authority, the proposal will be hard
for any government to ignore in election year.
