activists and unionists
Alliance Party media release Wednesday 10 November 2010
"There is an alternative – progressive economics for the 21st century" is the theme of a public meeting to be held on Saturday 13 November (3pm) at St Johns Church Conference Centre, Corner Willis and Dixon Street, Wellington.
The three speakers are New Zealand Council of Trade Unions economist Bill Rosenberg, Tax Justice campaign co-ordinator and Socialist Worker national chair Vaughan Gunson and UNITE union national secretary and candidate for Mana by-election Matt McCarten.
The meeting will be chaired by co-leader of the Alliance Party Andrew McKenzie.
These three speakers are all involved in developing progressive democratic alternatives to right wing "free market" political and economic ideas.
Bill will discuss the alternative economic strategy produced by the Council of Trade Unions.
Vaughan has been a key organizer for the successful tax justice campaign and its petition to remove GST from food and tax financial speculation, that has been jointly run by Socialist Worker and the Alliance, and he'll explain what is behind that campaign.
Matt is known to many for his high profile leadership of the UNITE union and is now bringing a left wing alternative to the Mana by election with his candidacy.
All are welcome to attend – free.
The public meeting is being hosted by the Alliance Party as part of its 2010 National Conference in Wellington.
