Law Society President invited to visit Fiji

Fiji’s Solicitor-General has invited New Zealand Law Society President Jonathan Temm to Fiji to observe the state of the rule of law there.

Mr Temm has been invited to travel to Fiji next month to attend the 12th annual Fiji Attorney-General’s Conference in Nadi from 3-4 December.

The invitation, from Fijian Solicitor-General Christopher Pryde, follows concerns expressed by the New Zealand Law Society in August 2010 about the impact of various events on the rule of law in Fiji.

The Attorney-General’s conference is normally attended by members of the Fijian judiciary and legal profession, diplomats and policy-makers. Mr Temm will have the opportunity to exchange views with Fiji’s Attorney-General and members of the legal profession.
