‘Say No To Naff’ this Christmas with UNICEF

Media Release

‘Say No To Naff’ this Christmas with UNICEF New Zealand

Socks, soaps and satin boxers not at the top of your Christmas list? UNICEF New Zealand thought as much and are giving New Zealanders a chance to ‘SAY NO TO NAFF”.

The children’s charity has launched the ‘SAY NO TO NAFF” campaign, tasked with reducing the amount of naff’ and unwanted Christmas gifts that New Zealanders receive every year.

Instead they are encouraging Christmas shoppers to select items from the ‘Inspired Gifts’ range through the facebook page www.facebook.com/SayNoToNaff or UNICEF’s website. www.unicef.org.nz . Customers can choose gifts such as water kits for a family in the Phillippines Bangladesh or story books for children in Bangladesh. Each gift comes with a personalised card to accompany the present.

"Say No To Naff is about helping Kiwis who are stuck for a gift idea and revert to a naft gift because they don’t know what to buy," says Dennis McKinlay, UNICEF New Zealand Executive Director.

"This year, we’re asking people to say no to naff gifts that clog up cupboard space, by encouraging people to buy something that will be appreciated not only by the recipient, as they are part of making a positive difference, by also by the under-privileged children across the world.”

New Zealanders choosing from the ‘Inspired Gifts’ range will help see the end of naff gifts destined to collect dust or be re-gifted next year.

UNICEF also guarantees that your gift makes it to a child in need. Plus 100% of the purchase price is spent on the gift and distributing it to the field, setting it apart from other charities.

Worldwide, UNICEF sent over 8 million Inspired Gifts to 76 countries last year, ranging from Algeria to Zambia. Some items also made it closer to home, being sent to Samoa after the 2009 tsunami.
