CTU meets Equity

CTU media release

31 October 2010

CTU meets Equity

Helen Kelly, CTU President and Andrew Little, Secretary of EPMU flew to Auckland today to meet the Board and Committee of Equity to discuss the dispute over The Hobbit and how to use the process agreed with SPADA to achieve a voice for performers in the industry.

The CTU acted in a principled way to resolve this dispute. Our objectives right from the start were to support the actors on their legitimate demands and find a way to settle this dispute that ensured The Hobbit films were made in New Zealand, and to protect the interests of the wider trade union movement including the current campaign on work rights.

The goal now is to make sure the settlement reached in this dispute builds the capacity of NZ Equity and results in an enduring form and process for performers to have a say in their terms and conditions.

Andrew Little said that the EPMU represents some workers in the media and theatre and he attended the meeting on this basis and in response to a CTU request.
