Cr Fenton Wilson Elected as Regional Council Chairman
Cr Fenton Wilson has been elected by fellow Councillors as Chairman of Hawke's Bay Regional Council and sworn in today at the inaugural Council meeting.
Cr Ewan McGregor (Hastings) has been elected as Deputy Chairman.
At the inaugural Regional Council meeting for the next three year term Councillors Alan Dick (Napier), Tim Gilbertson (Central HB), Neil Kirton (Napier), Fenton Wilson (Wairoa), Liz Remmerswaal (Hastings), Kevin Rose (Hastings), Christine Scott (Napier), and Eileen von Dadelszen (Hastings) were sworn in today by Chief Executive Andrew Newman.
Cr Wilson was elected as Chairman by a majority of Councillors (5/4) and was nominated by Cr von Dadelszen and seconded by Cr Gilbertson. Cr Wilson represents the Wairoa constituency.
The other Councillor nominated for Chairman was Cr Alan Dick who had served as Chairman for the past 2 years of the last term (nominated by Cr Kirton, seconded by Cr Remmerswaal).
Cr McGregor was nominated as Deputy Chairman by Cr Kirton and seconded by Cr Gilbertson. The other nomination for Deputy Chairman was Cr Scott, who had filled the role in the previous term.
Councillors will discuss the membership and chairmanship of Council committees in a public excluded workshop this afternoon with final voting on this at the Council meeting on Wednesday 3 November 2010.
