Ensuring all Aucklanders understand how to vote

Steps are being taken to ensure that all Aucklanders know how to vote in the first Auckland Council elections.

Elections fact sheets have been translated into Te Reo Maori, Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Samoan and Tongan.

The fact sheets include details on the changes to local government in Auckland and the political structure of the new Auckland Council as well as enrolment and voting details.

The translations are also available on the Auckland Council website: www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz

Translated flyers are also being distributed through community networks throughout the Auckland region.

Voting packs for the Auckland Council election will arrive in mailboxes from the end of next week, between 17 and 22 September.

The voting packs will include the actual voting document and background information on the candidates for mayor, wards and local boards, as well as district health boards and licensing trusts where applicable.

Progress and preliminary results will be announced as soon as possible after midday on Saturday 9 October The official results will be announced when special votes have been counted, in the week beginning 11 October.
