Mothers love gives power to Alfred Ngaro’s Campaign
Six weeks out from the local body Elections and Alfred Ngaro, C & R candidate for Maungakiekie-Tamaki ward is hot on the campaign trail. Alfred’s busy schedule has seen him out and
about with his team of volunteers at shopping centres, super-markets, football matches, community events - meeting and
greeting the community in his quest to become the Maungakiekie-Tamaki Councillor come October.
Last weekend was no different - the campaigning continued and ended with a family fundraiser at the Tamaki Community
Church Hall in Panmure which saw more than $3,000 raised for Mr Ngaro’s campaign. The successful fundraiser was
organised by Alfred’s mother Toko Ngaro, the matriarch of the Ngaro family who organised the whole event that saw close
to two hundred friends and family and community in attendance. The afternoon featured the sale of Cook Island
delicacies, raffles, games and other activities. “As a mother, you have to do what you can to support your son and I’m
very proud of Alfred. His family and people in the community are behind him one hundred and eighty per cent.” Mrs Ngaro
said.
Alfred said, “It makes me even more determined to do well when you have the support of your own family and friends and I
do not take this lightly or for granted the trust that people have placed in me.” He paid tribute to his parents, family
and all who were present.
“This was the best of Pacifica. It’s a great thing when you have every-day people coming together, pooling resources,
giving whatever they have in their pockets, even when they don’t have much and making things happen. It’s quite
heartening to have this kind of support and I feel quite honoured.” Alfred said.
