Hutt Valley to be recognised as a ‘safe community’
Hutt City and Upper Hutt City will receive official accreditation as an ‘International Safe Community’ at a designation ceremony this Thursday 2 September at 2pm, at the Te Maori meeting house, Guthrie Street, Waiwhetu.
Hutt Valley is to be recognised as an ‘International Safe Community’ by the Safe Communities Foundation having met the requirements of a World Health Organisation designed framework.
Safe Communities Foundation New Zealand director, Dr Carolyn Coggan, has headed up the accreditation team and will present the accreditation certificate, a plaque and flag from the foundation.
The Safe Hutt Valley Interagency Group (SHVIG) has been actively working towards International Safe Community designation over the past two years.
SHVIG is made up of representatives from Hutt City Council, Upper Hutt City Council, Police, District Health Board, Regional Public Health, ACC and Awakairangi Maori Regional Board.
