AFFCO CEO Response To CTU
In reply to CTU Secretary Peter Conway I suggest he familiarize himself with the dispute at Wairoa so that in future he
keeps his statements correct. This should not be a political game for the CTU. Simply there is a current signed
Collective Work Agreement in force between AFFCO and the Meat workers Union which covers this site.
AFFCO wished the Wairoa Plant to restart from its seasonal closure two weeks ago. The Union wished to negotiate a site
only agreement for additional items that are not in the core many of which AFFCO has subsequently agreed to. We asked
of the Union in return that the plant be manned to achieved ‘Industry Average Standards of Production’ on the Lamb line.
They have demanded additional money again to which we are resisting as the plant would not be economic. The Union has
refused everything to date to assist a restart so we are asking the signed agreement be honoured with the additional
items already offered by the Company included as an extra payment.
