Gun Salute for Visiting Korean Ships
The Republic of Korea Ships YANG MAN CHOON, a KDX I Destroyer and HWA CHEON, a Dae Chong Class Tanker, will arrive in Auckland on Thursday 19 August 2010.
Before berthing, YANG MAN CHOON will fire a 21-gun salute to honour New Zealand’s National Flag at 1:30pm. A return 21-gun salute to the Republic of Korea National Flag will take place from Devonport Naval Base.
Both Republic of Korea vessels will berth at 2pm, Queens Wharf, Auckland City, on the Thursday 19 August 2010.
During the ships’ visit a Wreath Laying Ceremony will be held at the Auckland War Memorial Museum to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the start of the Korean War. The ceremony starts at 4pm on Saturday 21 August 2010 The Chief of Navy, Rear Admiral Tony Parr will lay a wreath at this ceremony on behalf of the New Zealand Defence Force.
