Pay rates in full before 1 October and pay old GST

Pay rates in full before 1 October and current GST applies

Hutt City Council is reminding ratepayers the upcoming rise in GST will affect their 2010/11 rates account.

Earlier this year the Government announced GST will increase from 12.5 to 15 percent on 1 October. This means the first two rates instalments for the year will include GST at 12.5 and the last four will include GST at 15 percent.

If Hutt City ratepayers pay their annual rates in full before 1 October the current GST rate of 12.5 percent will apply.

Council’s finance manager Peter Collins says ratepayers were sent their annual rates assessments last month which reflect the increase in GST.

“The assessments include four instalments at 15 percent GST. If people choose to pay their rates in full before 1 October they can either pay the amount on their assessment and we’ll give them a credit on their rates, or they can call council’s rates team who’ll work out the reduced amount they need to pay,” he says.

If ratepayers have any questions about their rates account they can contact council on 04 570 6666 or email rates@huttcity.govt.nz.
