Flags lowered to half-mast to acknowledge death of New Zealand solider

At the request of the Prime Minister, the Honourable John Key, the New Zealand Flag is to be half-masted on all Government and public buildings for the remainder of today, 4 August 2010, to mark the death of Lieutenant Tim O'Donnell, soldier of the New Zealand Defence Force, killed in Afghanistan.

This instruction applies to all government departments and government buildings which have flag poles.

The Ministry for Culture and Heritage has guidelines on the correct way to lower the New Zealand flag. For more information about half-masting the flag, visit http://www.mch.govt.nz/nzflag/flying.html
