Network PR Expands Government Relations Offering

Network PR has appointed the former General Manager of the National Party, Mark Oldershaw, to the position of Director of Government Relations and Advocacy at Network PR.

He will lead the company’s Government Relations practice, based in Wellington.

“Mark brings a wide range of senior level experience from both the public and private sectors to the consultancy,” says Network PR Managing Director, Dennis Lynch.

“He most recently stepped down as General Manager of the New Zealand National Party. Prior to that he was Chief Executive of the New Zealand Hotel Council.

“Mark has worked closely with senior members of the National-led government over many years and with members of the Opposition when they were in government during his time with the Hotel Council.

“Mark brings a fresh and current perspective to the Government Relations team.”

According to Mr Oldershaw, “Interaction with government under an MMP political environment is becoming more complex and the traditional role of government relations is being challenged.

“The key strategy for successful practitioners is to provide collaborative leadership and tangible solutions to both government and industry. The classic win-win situation,” he says.

“New Zealand faces challenging issues in key areas such as energy, the primary sector, water, aged care, infrastructure and nutrition. These challenges can no longer be looked after by either government or the private sector alone.

“Modern government advocacy facilitates the connection between the two.”

Lynch said Network PR had been looking for someone who can move equally effectively in the public and private sectors.

“Mark has well established relationships with current Ministers, advisers, and officials, but also across the House and the public sector. Advocacy mixed with collaboration characterises our practice and in Mark we have someone who can move in the worlds of government and business.”
