The Wednesday Wire Hosted By Paul Deady

1207 - Finding a home for the Undie 500

First we'll have today's report from the hardworking team at bFM news. Anthony Lyall looks at the Undie 500, looking for a new home in Kaikoura of all places. The organisers reckon a new destination will mean a new, less debauched event, but residents of the country's crayfish capital aren't likely to be persuaded.

1210 - Israel and International Law, Prof. Al Gillespie

At 12.10 I'll be speaking to (above) an international law expert from the University of Waikato. We'll be talking about Israel's attack on the aid flotilla on Monday and the legal ramifications for a country which hasn't had a strong record of acquiescence to international law.

1225 - Who Is Petrobras? Assoc. Professor Bob Lloyd

At 12.25 we ask, who is Petrobras? Well, some quick answers now: they're a Brazilian multinational energy company - the largest company in Latin America. Theyr'e a significant oil producer too - with an output of almost 2 million barrels of oil every day. Petrobras owns oil refineries and oil tankers and is a world leader in developing technology from deep-water and ultra-deep water oil production. AND... it's just been awarded the sole right to explore and drill for five years in the 12,000 square km Raukumara Basin - an area off the east coast of the North Island, near White Island. But the timing really couldn't be worse, what with that BP mess in the Gulf of Mexico, and that whole climate change thing. I'll be talking to (above), who's the director of the Energy Studies programme at Otago University, and someone who's a little hesitant about giving this particular company the keys to the bottom of the ocean.

1235 - Counterclockwise

At 12.35 Lyndon Hood slides down a rope from scoop's hovering helicopter to deliver us counterclockwise. Today, he'll be happily whining about the widespread use of 50k as a figure to denote the tax largesse in this year's budget.

1245 - 50 Years of NZ TV - Paul Ward, Editor of NZ On Screen Project

And then at 12.45 I'll be talking to (above) about the 50th anniversary of television in New Zealand (not TVNZ) and how his website is marking the occasion.

Aucklanders can tune in at 95 on the FM dial.
