Super City Mayoral Candidates Questioned on Issues
Super City Mayoral Candidates Questioned on Family
Issues
Family First NZ has sent
questionnaires to the candidates for the Super City
Mayoralty asking about their views and their intentions on a
number of important family issues.
Topics included in the questionnaire include alcohol bylaws, loan sharks, location of brothels, street prostitution, offensive parades and billboards, pokie machines, housing affordability, and GST on rates.
A website www.valueyourvote.org.nz will compare the responses of the mayoral candidates.
“The ‘value your vote’ concept which focused on similar issues and conscience vote records was very significant and popular during the last general election campaign. This time we’re focusing on local body issues affecting families in the Auckland area,” says Bob McCoskrie, National Director of Family First NZ.
“Auckland families will be better
informed as to the values that each of the mayoral
candidates holds, and what action and leadership these
candidates will demonstrate to protect and strengthen
families.”
Questions include:
• will
you take the leadership in reducing the number of alcohol
outlets in residential areas and allow more community input
as to the location, number and hours of these
outlets
• Will you introduce bylaws and show leadership
in regulating public billboards in the Auckland supercity so
that they must be G-rated and only suitable for family
viewing, with a pre-vetting system
• Will you campaign
for Parliament to pass legislation to enable you to
introduce bylaws prohibiting brothels in residential areas
and close to sensitive sites such as schools, kindergartens,
playgrounds and shopping areas frequented by families and
children
• Will you campaign for Parliament to
introduce legislation requiring greater regulation and
accountability of loan sharks including capped interest
rates, registration, and controls on location
• will
you introduce and show leadership for a reducing lid policy
on the number of pokie machines in local
communities
• Will you campaign for the government to
clarify offensive behaviour under the Crimes Act in order to
prevent parades involving nudity and/or offensive behaviour?
e.g. boobs on bikes, beach nudity
Family First hopes to
have the website active by the beginning of
July.
