Child and youth offending statistics report
Child and youth offending statistics report released
The Ministry of Justice today released the third annual report on child and youth offending statistics: Child and Youth Offending Statistics in New Zealand 1992 to 2008. It is accompanied by a high-level statistical bulletin identifying key trends, titled An Overview of Child and Youth Offending Statistics in New Zealand: 1992 to 2008.
The report presents statistics on children (aged 10 to 13) and youth (aged 14 to 16) involved in child offending and youth justice processes. It examines trends in Police apprehensions of children and youth over the 1995 to 2008 period, and in prosecutions and sentencing of 14 to 16 year olds over the 1992 to 2008 period.
Before 2007, youth offending statistics were presented in the Ministry’s ‘Conviction and Sentencing of Offenders in New Zealand’ report.
The report and statistical bulletin are available on the Ministry of Justice website: www.justice.govt.nz under the What’s New tab.
