Elections to be held for the Manukau Youth Council
Elections to be held for the Manukau Youth Council
Manukau City Council has received 34 nominations for the 24 places available on the Manukau Youth Council.
Elections will take place on 26 April for
the following areas:
• Howick
• Mangere
•
Manurewa
• Otara
•
Papatoetoe.
There were no nominations from Clevedon and one vacancy for the Botany area. The new council will look at how to attract full representation from these wards.
The number of nominations matched the places
available for Pakuranga and Botany therefore those nominated
have been elected unopposed. They are:
Botany
Tommy Long, Dannemora.
Pakuranga
Elaine Cavanagh,
Pakuranga.
Ben Dowdle, Half Moon Bay.
Dhruv Divekar,
Bucklands Beach.
The elections, to be held in the Civic building, 31-33 Wiri Station Road, Manukau, will start at 5pm and close at 7pm and the results will be announced the same evening. Those voting will need to be aged between 15 to 25 years and live in the same area as the candidate they are voting for.
Manukau City Council’s youth planner Rex Hewitt says that this is a good response for the election and has provided an excellent choice of candidates, all who have different skills and perspectives.
The candidate’s profiles will be available at the elections and can be found on the website www.manukau.govt.nz/youthcouncil.
