SuperGold Card: What a Brilliant Result

PRESS RELEASE
What a Brilliant Result
Grey Power National President is thrilled to be able to announce that he has this morning received assurances both by telephone and by email from the Minister of Transport’s office for the Hon Steven Joyce, that the SuperGold Card free-transport scheme will NOT be discontinued or cut in any way. The Minister’s office has now advised that the review of the Super Gold Card will be focused on two issues:
1. The level of subsidy paid to the public transport operators. Currently the price paid to operators does not match the marginal cost incurred of providing the service to Super Gold Card holders. Government will have conversation with operators about this.
2. The level of administration costs paid. Currently public transport operators are receiving the fare subsidies as well as an administration cost, which Government believes provides for some duplication of cost recovery. Again this will be discussed with operators.
“We are keen to encourage practical assistance for our Seniors and Government Schemes such as this one go a long way to improving the lives of many, so we are obviously thrilled that Government are looking at this issue with a like mind,” says Mr Howard.
