Anti Whaling Theatrical Demonstration
Anti Whaling Theatrical Demonstration
Friday 5th March, Japanese Embassy, Auckland 12:30-2pm.
Today, a macabre and graphic theatrical representation is being depicted in front of the Japanese Embassy on Albert Street in Auckland CBD. Activists are raising awareness about the hunting, and imminent extinction, of the most graceful and powerful marine creatures on the face of this planet.
We are calling for a cease to whaling in the southern ocean, and for the New Zealand government to intervene NOW and prevent their extinction.
In graphic portrayal of the events happening in our oceans right now, a full size baby Minke whale is being carved up and sold on the street as meat. This is one of the various species of whale being hunted and slaughtered to extinction under the guise of “scientific research” by Japanese whalers.
This action highlights these disturbing, brutal and graphic scenes happening right now in our oceans. This must stop now.
We demand the New Zealand government make a stand to protect whales in the southern seas from being butchered under false claims to ‘Scientific Research’.
We are calling for a complete ban on whaling immediately and for the release of Pete Bethune, a New Zealand Citizen being held on one of the Japanese whaling vessels’ security ship, the Shoran Maru 2.
Pete Bethune boarded the ship in mid February and attempted to make a citizens arrest of the captain who had deliberately rammed, destroyed and sunk his vessel, the Ady Gil worth $3million. This endangered the lives of the 6 crew members on board as they were preventing whales from being hunted.
Despite a moratorium on whaling in the Antarctic reserves of the southern ocean, whales are still being slaughtered.
