Grey Power: Taxation Review

Grey Power: Taxation Review

The introduction of the recommendation from the Taxation Review Committee, as reported in the news media, reeks of shades of former Prime Minister, Jenny Shipley, when she set the amount of national superannuation back to 60% of the Net ordinary after tax weekly wage.

Grey Power feels that the recommendation is ridiculous that those earning $70,000 per annum receive tax cuts while those below that figure receive nothing. Further, Grey Power is concerned that an increase of G.S.T to 15% is nothing short of exploitation. Those on low fixed incomes pay all their wages/salary in order to exist whilst the more affluent only spend a percentage of their income on their existence. In addition, many on higher incomes have had salary increases during the recession whilst those on lower incomes have not. The low income bracket has been exploited enough.

“If this the way National treats those low income people then they are looking very much like a one term government. Surely, it is long past the time when governments should appoint practical people to their committees, rather than those who look after their own interests.”
