Maori Leadership Mobilise Nationally to Meet Local Government Challenge
Maori leadership from around the country will meet this Friday to strategise on mobilising Maori in the face of serious changes to Local Government structures in Auckland and around the country.
The Hui  will draw on the experiences of Mana Whenua within  Auckland and both urban and Iwi communities nationally who say that since the Supercity process began relationships between Maori and Local Government have been ‘put on the backburner’
Hui coordinators Helen Te Hira and Rau Hoskins of IHI Action Group predict that among the many responses likely to come from the  ‘Local Government and Maori – Beyond the Supercity Hui’ will be a unified position to get Maori  registered and voting for changes to Local Government that respect the significant position  of Maori economically and politically.
