Rolling strikes create safety issue at Parliament
The Parliamentary Service says it is disappointed that the industrial action by its staff, who are members of the PSA, has moved to rolling strikes.
General Manager Geoff Thorn said managers were able to provide security cover when staff attended a stop work meeting this afternoon.
“However, I am gravely concerned with the manner in which staff walked away from their posts this afternoon, potentially leaving the precinct insecure and creating a safety issue for those who work on the precinct.”
“I have written to the PSA advising that if the rolling strikes continue, I will consider locking the security staff out of the workplace. Safety on the precinct is vital and the union’s action could compromise this”
He said that the parliamentary Service remains committed to continuing negotiation with the PSA and that door is always open.
