Explosive Expression Art Auction a Huge Success

Explosive Expression Art Auction a huge success Sunday 18th October 2009 FOR IMMEDIATE USE

The public came out in force to support those still facing charges from the state terror raids of 15th October 2007. An art auction in Wellington last night raised over $20,000.

"Thanks to the amazing artists who donated their work for the cause, and thanks to the hundreds of people who attended the Explosive Expression exhibition over the week, the issue of state repression of resistance is back under the spotlight in Aotearoa," says October 15th Solidarity spokesperson Peter Steiner.

The money raised in the auction will be used to support the defendants and their families in the on-going court case. This case results from the police and government?s desire to silence dissent and crush any movements who challenge the state.

"Meanwhile the state continues to expand its own repressive power, holding the select committee hearing on the Search and Surveillance Bill on this second anniversary of the state terror raids," says Mr Steiner.

"The on-going court case resumes in the Auckland High Court on Monday morning 19 October for two more weeks of pre-trial hearings. Defendants in the case are continuing the challenge to the crown case and the October 15th Solidarity group demands that all charges are dropped."
