Kiwi Party leader Larry Baldock was not surprised with the news story from Australia that parents there feel strongly about the right to decide how they raise their kids.
"It would now seem that it is Australia's turn for a debate on parental discipline with the controversy sparked by a mother being threatened with charges of assault after smacking her 9yr old daughter on the bum with a wooden spoon," he said.

An online survey conducted by newspapers across Australia has shown more than 90% of those participating want to retain the freedom for parents to smack their children for correction. Prime Minister Kevin Rudd agrees!
"While our Prime Minister makes speeches about the desirability of closing the gap in the cost of living with Australia, he would be wise to accept that there may be more reasons than just low wages that make the move across the Tasman attractive for Kiwi families wanting to raise their families in a good environment," said Mr Baldock.
