Close Up’s Interviews With Shooting Victim, Family

Close Up’s Interviews With Shooting Victim & Family Online

Monday the 5th October, 2009

This evening, TVNZ’s Close Up Programme screened a series of exclusive interviews with people caught up in yesterday’s shooting in the Hawkes Bay.

The first interview was with Chad Hinga, the young father who was shot in the shoulder as he approached the armed fugitive.

Mark Sainsbury spoke to him early this afternoon just before he underwent surgery. Mark also spoke to Chad’s wife, Gemma who was at the hospital with Chad and their newborn baby, Iziah.

Mark began by asking Chad if knew the shooter had a gun when he first approached him?

Gemma Hinga told Mark Sainsbury that her mum, Carolyn Pinder and sister-in-law, Gaylene Pinder kept her calm while events unfolded yesterday. They were across the other side of the North Island at the family home in Levin talking to Gemma on the phone. The woman spoke with Close Up reporter, Corinne Ambler today.

Two neighbours lucky to escape the gunman's path were farm workers Brady Wells and Claire Paget from Norsewood. But they did witness something that they wouldn't wish upon anyone. Donna-Marie Lever spoke with Brady and Claire today.
