Be part of something big - and quite loud!
Today, Monday (21st Sept) is your chance to take 5 minutes and be part of something big (and quite loud!).
http://350aotearoa.createsend.com/t/r/l/dhykti/gydckdy/r AVAAZ (the world's biggest web campaigning organisation in the world, with 3.5 million members) has put the call out for a global wake-up call on climate change.
http://350aotearoa.createsend.com/t/r/l/dhykti/gydckdy/y 350.org is one of the partner organisations on this - it's kind of like a warm up to Oct 24th. In just two weeks of organising, thousands of events around the world will be taking place on Monday at 12:18pm (different times in different places though), calling on our elected leaders for an ambitious, fair and binding treaty on climate change. Dozens of simultaneous actions are planned around New Zealand - read over the 3 easy steps to get involved, and check out http://350aotearoa.createsend.com/t/r/l/dhykti/gydckdy/j www.350.org.nz for more details.
If you're in Wellington, then rock on down to the Civic Square for a massive flash-mob event!
Step 1 - arrive
Try to arrive just before 12:18. Set your alarm for 12:18 - crank the volume right up. When your alarm goes off, take out your cell phone and hold it up in the air. Relish the tension of an unanswered alarm, you'll know a bit how the climate feels.
Step 2 - make some noise
When you get the cue from your event hosts make as much noise as you can (clapping, whistle, drum etc). Many people are still asleep to the fact that we need urgent action on climate change so it will take quite a bit to wake everyone up!
In Wellington, we will have some Taiko (big Japanese drums) so you'll know when the time is right to start.
Step 3 - call
When the noise subsides turn your alarm off and make your climate wake up call. You can call a friend or family member or someone you haven't talked to for a while. Or check out http://350aotearoa.createsend.com/t/r/l/dhykti/gydckdy/t www.350.org.nz on Monday morning and we will have some suggestions for you.
