Bus Drivers Reject Pay Offer
Auckland bus drivers have
voted overwhelmingly today to reject a pay offer from
Infratil on the grounds it would be continuation of poverty
wages.
Combined bus unions spokesperson Karl Andersen says he contacted the company’s advocate immediately following the meeting and offered to meet for further talks but was told they had made their last and final offer.
“We think Infratil really should take stock and think not only about what their drivers are saying but about the needs of Aucklanders.
“Effective public transport is the key to Auckland’s future prosperity and most of the public recognises this. If we are to achieve a first class public transport system then we need stable, well trained and adequately paid operators.
“Our drivers are extremely hard working and skilled but are paid barely enough to live on despite increasing patronage and good profits for Infratil.”
Mr Andersen says delegates will be meeting at Trades Hall at 6pm on Sunday to discuss what their next step will be.
