New British High Commissioner to New Zealand

The British Government announced today that the next British High Commissioner to New Zealand will be Vicki Treadell. She will arrive in May next year.

Ms Treadell is currently British Deputy High Commissioner in Mumbai and is a career diplomat with experience spanning 30 years. She has previously had overseas postings in Pakistan and Malaysia and worked in a wide range of roles in the UK. Immediately before her posting to Mumbai, she was Director for the North West of England operations of UK Trade & Investment, the British counterpart of NZ Trade and Enterprise.

In Mumbai, Ms Treadell had to direct the consular response for British nationals caught up in the terrorist attacks of 26 November 2008.

When she arrives in New Zealand, she will become the first female British High Commissioner of Asian origin. Ms Treadell was born in Malaysia and her mother was Singapore Chinese.
