Referendum voter turnout great for the first week

Referendum voter turnout great for the first week

The Kiwi Party
Press Release
7 August, 2009

Kiwi party leader and petition organiser Larry Baldock welcomed the first report from the Chief Electoral Officer that shows that 570,300 voters have already sent in their referendum papers.

"Considering that some papers were not posted until Monday this is a very good response," he said.

"We have heard politicians and 'yes vote' supporters claiming that most New Zealanders were not interested in the referendum for all sorts of reasons. Confusing question, waste of money, etc, etc, but this initial report seems to fly in the face of such claims.

I sincerely hope that every voter will take the opportunity to make there voice heard. At the risk of sounding repetitive, there are only two people who can waste the money now spent on this referendum, the voter who does not vote, and John Key if he refuses to listen."
