Contract Out The Prisoners
Contract Out The Prisoners
Sunday, June 21, 2009 Billet out the prisoners on contract overseas. Why build more prisons in NZ, just contract out the prisoners overseas.
Its time to get real with protecting our citizens from those who commit crime against them. It is obvious that our prison and justice system is not working in protecting our society from the criminals. Our courts and prisons are overloaded, criminals keep defending and the justice system protects the criminals by keeping past criminal offending records from the jurors.
There are back logs of those changed with an offense, that don't turn up for their court appearances. Leaving criminals and some hardened criminals breaching their bail conditions still out and about in our society. The police just don't have the time and resources to chase up the warrants for their arrest.
Society needs to be reassure that these crimes are not only locked up, but are not even in the country. Giving law biding New Zealanders real piece of mind. Without the fear that these hardened crimes thugs rapists and pedophiles living amongst us and in same cases still able to pray on our communities and our children's innocence time and time again.
So what do we do...
Ist we need protection.... piece of mind. 2nd we need justice... a better way of doing things. 3rd we need a deterrent that works.. to stop re- offending.
The better and cheaper way of doing this... would be to instead of building more prisons containers or otherwise or letting prisoners out on home detention as now because our existing prisons are full. Would be to contract our prisoners out to overseas prisons.. One less prison here saves the taxpayer $150m in construction costs minimum. And each inmate costs around $60,000 a year to maintain. Billeting out our prisoners on contract to other counties would curate employment and economic opportunities for their economies. The plus for us would be financial savings to government and the taxpayer. Some countries could contract for far less than $60,000 per annum per inmate. And we would have piece of mind knowing these undesirables weren't even in the country and in some cases able to roam our streets.
It would be a deterrent to other would be criminals and would be offenders. Their family friends lawyers would have to fly over to see them at their own expense. And the prisoners themselves that had served their time, would have a better understanding of what a privilege it is to live in New Zealand.
We also need to consider news ways of tracking down the courts breach of bail offenders and those who don't pay fines that are coursing backlogs at the courts. Offenders that are overtaxing police time and resources. By having the equivalent of the US Bounty Hunters, Authorized commission only paid New Zealand Justice Wardens to round up the offenders, and bring them to justice. It is the governments responsibility to keep our citizens save, and to try new ways of doing things. Because as we know what we are doing now by throwing away more taxpayers money on building more prisons at a system that is already overloaded and not working is not acceptable.( Thats the Reality).
Another option would be to build a prison on a offshore Pacific Island that is dependent on New Zealand for aid. That way the island can benefit from the employment and economic opportunities the prison would provide their people and economy. And we would get something back in return for our aid. An option a lot cheaper than building more prisons here.
