Many people do not know who puts our statute law into words. In fact this demanding job is done by an office called Parliamentary Counsel Office (PCO for short). The members of that office are expert drafters. They are also knowledgeable about the whole legal system, and work with government departments and ministries to ensure the each Act of Parliament and regulation is the best it can be.
"The office is one of our real constitutional safeguards", said Professor John Burrows of the New Zealand Law Commission. "The Act that sets it up, however, is old and has got out of date".
