Judy Turner: Wait a minute, John Boscawen

UnitedFuture’s Mt Albert candidate Judy Turner said that if ACT candidate John Boscawen thought he was the answer for disaffected National and Labour voters in the coming by-election, then the question must be truly frightening.

“In the end, he is an extreme candidate from an extreme party, and middle New Zealand will not be comfortable seeing an ACT candidate as the solution to anything,” Mrs Turner said

“The reality that this by-election will not change the shape of the Government or the direction of this country, but it does provide an opportunity for the people of Mt Albert to pick a candidate to represent their interests in Parliament,” she said.

Feedback from her own campaigning in the electorate had confirmed that Mt Albert voters are not enjoying being treated as a “political football”, she said.

“A lot of people are doing some serious thinking about this by-election, and what they want from an MP. That’s a good thing.”

Mrs Turner, with two terms in Parliament as a UnitedFuture MP, has more Parliamentary experience than all the other candidates combined, and said a vote for her was a vote for a moderate and responsible voice within the Government.

“I operated an Auckland office during the last term of Parliament. I’m aware of the issues here and committed to them.

“Mr Boscawen operates with a ‘list’ MP mentality and will not bring the focus on electorate needs that I would,” she said.

“There are a lot of families in Mt Albert. The big parties are fighting their own fight. ACT and the Greens are on the extremes. UnitedFuture has always been and always will be the party looking after families,” she said.
