Barnardos welcomes new Community Response Fund
“Barnardos New Zealand welcomes the Government’s plan to establish a new Community Response Fund to support critical social services for New Zealanders during the economic downturn”, says Murray Edridge, Chief Executive of Barnardos New Zealand.
“We are very pleased the Government has acknowledged that the demand on social services in the community and voluntary sector is increasing due to the economic downturn. Particularly at this time, the sector is experiencing a funding crisis for community-based social services”.
“Being one of the organisations providing family and early childhood services throughout New Zealand, Barnardos confirms that the demand on community-based services is increasing, and it is difficult to meet the high demand”.
“Barnardos also wants to congratulate the Government for continuing to fund the Pathways to Partnership programme for community and voluntary sector organisations, and continuing to work alongside those organisations that are delivering crucial services to families, children and other people in need”, concludes Mr Edridge.
