Matthew-in-the-City Saturday May 2, 6.30pm
Thousands of Tamils have been killed and are continuing to be killed in the latest violence in Sri Lanka, we come together as one to pray for peace
The Tamil Women’s Organisation (New Zealand) is organising an Inter Faith Prayer Vigil for Peace in Sri Lanka on Saturday the 2nd of May 2009 from 6.30pm at St Matthews Church, Corner of Hobson & Wellesley Street , Auckland City. The intention is to bring people of different faiths together as one and to pray for peace in Sri Lanka.
Since the end of 2008 the violence in Sri Lanka has escalated to a level where it is being called a Tamil genocide. In the last three months more than 100 people are being killed daily. There is a media ban on in Sri Lanka, which makes it difficult to get true information about what is happening in the war zone.
The Tamil Community in New Zealand is deeply concerned about this war, as many have immediate family members and friends in the war zone. They have had no contact with them for some time. At this desperate stage, the people wish to gather together and to pray to god asking for peace & healing for all those who are suffering in Sri Lanka.
This Inter Faith Prayer Vigil for Peace in Sri Lanka will have contibutions from all major religions in Auckland. It will be an opportunity for all concerned religious and non religious members of the public to come together as one to remember people who have lost their lives in this war, and to pray for lasting peace and reconciliation for the people in Sri Lanka.
St Matthew-in-the-City welcomes all people to come, pray and light a candle for peace in Sri Lanka.
