Whanau Are The Real Criminals Says Minister
15 year old Jahche Broughton has received a fair sentence, Te Kahui Mana Ririki Chair, Dr Hone Kaa, said today.
"We are not dealing with an adult criminal - we must remember that this is a 15-year-old boy. This means that there is great hope for his rehablitation.
"Punishment by being imprisoned won't work. In fact what we know is that it could turn him into a more sophisticated criminal.
"I hope that the criminal justice system invests in this boy's rehabilitation."
Dr Kaa said that the real criminals in this case are whanau.
"The family of this boy must have had some indications of his behaviour and potential. They are the ones who must be held accountable for this dreadful outcome."
