RAM defends public ownership of Auckland's Ports
Media Release: Residents Action Movement (RAM) - 13/3/2009
Today Residents Action Movement (RAM) Vice Chair Elliott Blade slammed
insidious suggestions to privatise the Ports of Auckland.
"Privatisation of our country's public assets failed in the 1980's and 1990's.
"But the tired, extremist agenda of the free marketeers is like the
Terminator: it always seems to come back from the dead!
"Pure and simple, privatisation of infrastructure is detrimental to
all Aucklanders.
"The Ports of Auckland is an extremely valuable asset in terms of it's
financial contribution to the city, in particular our struggling
public transport system.
"In a time of economic crisis, RAM believes we should be looking to
expand public assets to provide jobs, develop our economy and rescue
failing infrastructure," Elliott Blade said.
