Air New Zealand Supports Nine-day Fortnight Initiative
Chief Executive Officer Rob Fyfe says that if the global economic turmoil caused Air New Zealand to further reduce capacity and consider redundancies, the airline would embrace the Government subsidised nine-day fortnight initiative.
“We would encourage employers, employees and unions to get behind this proposal and look at how they can contribute alongside Government to help this approach succeed and preserve jobs. This approach is just one of many steps that will be required to help reduce the impact of the current recession on New Zealand businesses and their employees and help accelerate our recovery,” Mr Fyfe says.
“While Air New Zealand is holding its own at the moment, if the airline was placed in the position of having to consider further redundancies through capacity reductions, we would certainly be talking to our people affected and would be willing to top up the Government’s provision to utilise the nine-day fortnight proposal.”
