National’s roll back of ‘Nanny State’ encouraging

Press Release
Feb 9, 2009

The announcement by Education Minister Anne Tolley last week is good news.  Reversing Labours tuck shop controls and letting parents and schools decide what food children should eat for lunch instead of ‘Nanny State’ is a step in the right direction.

Leader of the Kiwi Party and organiser of the petition to force a referendum on ‘the anti-smacking law’ that will be held Aug 21st this year said he hoped this was an indication that National would further get the Government out of good parents lives and allow them to use common sense when raising their children.

“Helen Clark and Sue Bradford’s ‘nanny state’ should never have been interfering in the lives of the majority of parents.

“The ads run by Family First in yesterday’s Sunday papers give further concrete evidence of the stress being inflicted on good parents and the waste of resources created by Bradford’s crazy law change.

“When the referendum reveals that the overwhelming majority of Kiwis want the law repealed we shall all be looking for leadership from John Key and the National Cabinet to take another step to get the Government out of our lives,” said Mr Baldock.

Ends.
