Lecture: Domestic Policy Dr Of US Think Tank
Domestic Policy Director Of Leading US Think Tank To
Deliver Lecture In Auckland
Jennifer Marshall, Director of Domestic Policy Studies at the US-based Heritage Foundation, one of the world’s most influential think tanks, will be visiting New Zealand to deliver a lecture on Wednesday, 28 January 2009, at Maxim Institute.
An expert in both education and welfare reform, Ms Marshall will be examining how the damaging effects of recent challenges, like the economic recession confronting the new US President and Hurricane Katrina, can be lessened by strategic reforms.
She oversees research at the Heritage Foundation in the areas of education, family, religion and civil society, as well as directing the think tank’s Richard and Helen DeVos Center for Religion and Civil Society and managing familyfacts.org, an online catalogue of social science research relating to family and religious practice. She has spoken at national and international forums, and appeared before Congress and on various radio and television shows, such as C-SPAN’s premier talk show, “Washington Journal” and Fox News Channel’s “Hannity & Colmes.”
Before joining Heritage in 2003, Marshall was Senior Director of Family Studies at the Family Research Council and later worked on cultural policy issues at Empower America, another Washington-based think tank. Marshall holds a master’s degree in statecraft and world politics from the Institute of World Politics in Washington, D.C.
Her lecture “Overcoming the Obstacles” will look in-depth at effective responses to poverty and examine the impact of educational and welfare failure in the US with particular regard to children from low-income and minority backgrounds.
