Online campaign against Israeli attacks

Alliance creates online campaign against Israeli attacks in Gaza
Alliance Party media release for immediate release Thursday 1 January 2008
Alliance Party co-leader Kay Murray says the Alliance Party is dismayed to learn that the Israeli government has recently barred journalists from the Gaza border.
This is in addition to the existing ban on journalists entering Gaza itself, which has been in place for since the attacks began.
Ms Murray says the Alliance is extremely concerned about the step up in the efforts by the Israeli government to manipulate international media coverage of its continued attacks on Gaza.
"Media coverage is virtually restricted to selected images provided by the Israelis themselves as evidence for their version of events. This is a deliberate ploy to mislead the public and avoid widespread condemnation for their actions."
Recent reports state that the Israeli government has moved to subvert online media as well. It has declared that ‘online media and the blogosphere are another warzone’.
She says the Alliance believes now, more than ever, it is imperative that Israel gets the message that, despite all its PR efforts, people see its collective and indiscriminate punishment of the people of Gaza for what it is – a war crime.
Ms Murray says, “It is obvious Prime Minister John Key is not going to speak on our behalf. So in the best traditions of Kiwi DIY, the Alliance has set up an webpage where anyone can send a short message to the Israeli Prime Minister and other members of the Israeli parliament."

Concerned Kiwis can use the email to personally send Israel the message that they don’t believe their spin and request an immediate cessation of attacks on Gaza, says Ms Murray.
