Masport dispute settles

Striking EPMU and Moulders Union members at Masport Foundries Ltd have voted to accept an improved pay offer from the company and will be returning to work on Monday.

The seventy union members have been on strike since last Wednesday over the company’s 3% pay offer. The improved offer includes a pay increase of 4% + 1% over fifteen months as well as improvements to overtime rates.

EPMU national secretary Andrew Little says the improved offer is a testament to the solidarity and strength shown by members.

“There’s a lot of talk about raising workers’ wages but sometimes that takes direct action and solidarity and that is exactly how union members at Masport got a decent deal.

“The extra money and the improvement to overtime rates these workers have won will be a well-earned boost to them and their families as they head into Christmas.”

The EPMU represents fifty workers at Masport and the Moulders Union represents around twenty.
